What Ho, Uncle Vanya!

“I say Jeeves where the blazes are we?”

“It would appear to be Russia, sir.”

“Good Lord! Aren’t they all raving Bolsheviks, what?”

“This is Russia 1890, sir.”

“Well, as long as I’m out of the clutches of dear old Aunt Agatha and the frightful Natalie Chutney-Phipps, I don’t really care!”

Escaping the prospect of a marriage arranged by his indomitable Aunt Agatha, Bertie Wooster jumps from the frying pan into the fire when he finds himself the object of the attentions of a character from one of Chekhov’s plays.

How did this happen? Well, as ever it was the resourceful Jeeves who took his master out of trouble in a 1923 Bugatti and drove them both on to the stage of a Chekhov play. Now pursued by the desperate Natasha, with Jeeves becoming the target for the amorous attentions of bored actress Irina Arkadina, disaster looms for the pair.

Combining the comic talents of P G Wodehouse, the tragicomic vision of Anton Chekhov and the creative mayhem that is Company of Friends, ‘What Ho, Uncle Vanya!’ promises to be an interesting –not to say confusing- night out.
